I've held a soft spot for Master Shortie for quite a while now. Back when I was still at uni I remember going to a club and hearing Dance Like A White Boy for the first time, and thinking it was the funniest thing, but loving it none the less. Since then I've seen him play live, he's released an album, been signed to a major and for now it seems he's moved stateside. Not bad going Shortie.
Anyway, 'your boy' is soon to release a new mixtape, Flying Low, and a couple of tracks from it have been floating around the net. The most recent one, Always Like This is a mix with a track from Bombay Bicycle Club's 2009 album, I Had The Blues But I Shook Them Loose.
OK, to be honest I have to admit that Shortie can be a little on the weak side at times... But somehow it doesn't always matter, he's fun to listen to and I normally enjoy his stuff. It's not amazing by any means but I'm a big fan of both him and Bombay, and it works pretty well!
This track, This Way, it also from the mixtape, and was put out a couple of weeks ago.
I just wish he'd try and push the boundaries a bit harder. I like both tracks, but it never sounds like it's taxing him and it always seems like I know what to expect. I'm gonna have to go see him again though, as last time it was with live drums and guitar, and it worked really well! Be good to see how these tracks translate. I'll keep listening Theo, but I'm in danger of getting bored if you don't do something unexpected soon.
